description of the new observatory
This personal observatory was started on the 4th of March 2026 and finished on the 3rd of April of the same year. This time I chose the sliding roof solution because it is so easy to open and close compared to my previous home observatory. I reused entirely my previous observatory after I moved to my new home. Like in my previous observatory I chose to put the mount’s tripod on concrete blocks.
To avoid any movement while I walk in the shelter, I cut out the wooden floor provided so as to lay the concrete blocks directly on the ground and thus avoid any vibration conduction. The concrete blocks were sealed on the ground with a very liquid cement which is easy to remove if necessary. The original material (compressed wood) of the roof has been replaced by special exterior 5mm marine plywood. I carefully covered it with 2 coats of marine varnish. No roof hinges anymore, the roof now slides on 2 inox rail thanks to 4 inox wheels fixed under it.
Up to now the roof sliding system is running without serious problem. As the roof is slightly sloping the rain water does not stay and flows towards the rear of the shelter.
